Indian Boundary Lake Recreation Area is located near Tellico Plains, TN and borders the Cherokee National Forest. It is a beautiful place to spend a weekend in the outdoors. It offers hiking, biking, kayaking, a 96 acre lake, and a great campground. For us, camping is a way to unplug, take a deep breath, and enjoy a time-out from an overly scheduled life. So, here's why you should check it out:
1. Less Crowded.
It's less crowded compared to the campgrounds found at its very popular neighbor, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
2. The Cherohala Skyway.
It's located off of the Cherohala Skyway, a less traveled, but equally beautiful scenic highway comparable to the Blue Ridge Parkway.
3. A Clear, Beautiful Lake.
The campground is within walking distance of a beautiful, clear 26 acre lake where you can swim, boat, or fish.
4. A Bike Path.
You can bike around the flat, tree-lined 3.1 mile lake loop- a great activity for the family.
5. Mountain Balds.
Its proximity to mountain balds. I'm a sucker for the beauty and vistas found atop a mountain bald and there are several within driving distance.
6. Old Growth Forest.
An old growth forest is also within driving distance. I love large, stately trees that have somehow survived over the centuries.
A beautiful waterfall is close by.
8. Trees and Shade.
The campground sites have plenty of trees to hang my hammock for a shady retreat.
9. No Cell Service.
My phone doesn't have cell service here, so I truly get to remember life before cellular intrusion.
10. Ice Cream!
You can buy ice cream at the campground's General Store. 'Nuf said!
Note: The campground is open from mid-April through the end of October.
